Guided tours for school classes / youth groups

• Welcome in the entrance area; followed by an illustrated presentation on the history of the Emsland camps, tailored to the age/topic of the group; duration approx. 60 min.
• Visit to the exhibition: After a short introduction, the young people work in the exhibition in groups of two with worksheets; duration approx. 45-60 min.
• Explanations of the topography of the Esterwegen camp on the aerial photograph in the entrance area; followed by a tour of the camp grounds with explanations or self-exploration with subsequent evaluation; duration approx. 45-60 min.
• Total duration (with a break after the introductory lecture) approx. 3 to 3.5 hours

• Welcome in the entrance area; followed by an illustrated presentation on the creation of the Esterwegen Memorial (duration approx. 15 min.) and the history of the Emsland camps; duration approx. 60 min.
• Short introduction to the exhibitions; individual tour or work with worksheets; duration approx. 45 min.
• Small group work, e.g.
• ‘From concentration camp to memorial site - the design of a historical camp site today’;
• Work with objects/artefacts in the exhibition;
• Work with biography folders
• How society, former prisoners and the region dealt with history after 1945
• Presentation of the results in the exhibition and in the seminar room; duration approx. 120 min.
• Guided tour of the former camp site by the working group ‘The design ...’; duration approx. 45 min.
• Final discussion
• Total duration (with two breaks) approx. 6 hours
