Public guided tours

Public guided tours for individuals and small groups take place every 1st Sunday of the month (February to December) at 11:00 and 15:00, subject to opening hours.

The history of the 15 Emsland camps, which the National Socialists had built on the edge of the Emsland moors between 1933 and 1938/39 and which they used as concentration, penal and prisoner of war camps until 1945, is presented in a short presentation in the foyer of the memorial.

The brief introduction to the history of the Emsland camps is followed by a tour of the grounds of the former Esterwegen concentration and prison camp. Here, life in prison, forced labor and the individual fates of the prisoners and detainees are presented.

The one-hour program ends with a short introduction to the permanent exhibitions, which can then be visited individually.

Cost (per person):
Adults: € 3.00
Pupils / students: € 2.00
