Persecution and violance in the Emsland camps 1933 – 1945.
Between 1933 and 1945, the Nazi state maintained 15 camps in the regions of the Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim, which were places of Nazi terror as part of the system of the SS, judiciary and Wehrmacht. Around 80,000 concentration camp inmates and prisoners suffered in the camps, more than 100,000 prisoners of war have been abducted to the camps during the war. More than 20,000 people from various European countries perished in these camps.
