Esterwegen Memorial
Research
The Esterwegen Memorial has extensive collections related to the history of the Emsland camps, as well as covering the developments of the region. In the Research section you will find an overview of the options for accessing these collections.
For their research, interested parties can use both the publicly accessible library and the archive. The holdings can be viewed in the library's reading room. They are constantly being expanded and the archival collections are being successively digitized. The memorial also publishes the results of its research in its publication series and in memorial books on the victims of the Emsland camps.
Usage
The holdings are open to anyone interested in learning more about the history of the Emsland camps or the fate of individuals as family members, researchers, teachers, students or learners. The library can be used during the memorial's opening hours. For information on individual fates, family members and interested parties may fill out the memorial's contact form directly. Researchers who would like to carry out extensive research on specific topics are requested to use the archive inquiry form and send the completed form to archiv(at)gedenkstaette-esterwegen.de. If you have any questions regarding archive inquiries and use of the library, please do not hesitate to contact us.
For research purposes, workstations are available on site. The equipment includes:
